Miss Coachella? Recap these festival highlights in performance, fashion
The famous annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, simply known as Coachella, kicked off last weekend in Indio, California. The festival occurs annually for two weekends in a row at the Empire Polo Club in the middle of the sunny California desert.
The festival is well known for its celebrity guests, phenomenal performances and the fashion of those who attend. Many festival-goers dress to impress, wearing fun, funky and creative outfits to fit the vibes of the three-day event.
The lineup this year was phenomenal, with headliners Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Swedish House Mafia along with The Weeknd. Besides the three headlining acts, the festival boasts a wide array of artists from a variety of genres.
Some of the other notable performers include Daniel Caesar, Megan Thee Stallion, Giveon, BROCKHAMPTON, Doja Cat, Ari Lennox, FINNEAS and many others.
Ye, who was originally set to perform as the third headliner at Coachella, dropped out from his headlining spot only two weeks before the festival began. The festival organizers combined the creative powers of Swedish House Mafia and the Weeknd to replace Ye in his headlining role.
Some fashion highlights from this year include looks from Hailey Bieber, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Harry Styles, Vanessa Hudgens, Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion.
Both Bieber and Jenner rocked casual outfits, prioritizing comfort over head-turning looks at the festival. Kardashian skipped the actual festival but arrived at the Revolve party donning a taupe two-piece set, consisting of a one-sleeved top and a matching floor-length skirt with a slit.
Styles performed in a funky rainbow jumpsuit, custom-made by Gucci, a brand that he constantly works with.
While many of the outfits were unique and made a statement, the performances were even more showstopping.
Styles brought out Lizzo for a surprise performance of One Direction’s 2012 hit “What Makes You Beautiful.” Fans were shocked and excited about the surprise guest performance, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Styles and Lizzo have become an iconic dynamic duo in recent years, and nothing is better than seeing their amazing friendship continue to flourish.
Another headliner, Eilish, also rocked the festival with performances of songs from her 2021 album “Happier Than Ever” and her 2019 album “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?” Eilish also brought out a special guest, Khalid, to perform their 2018 hit ballad “lovely.”
Eilish also made history this year, becoming the youngest person to ever headline the famous California music festival.
Megan Thee Stallion gave an invigorating performance that was nothing less than exciting. She performed some of her biggest hits from recent years, such as “WAP,” “Body,” “Thot Sh*t,” “Savage” and “Hot Girl Summer.”
Megan Thee Stallion made a statement in a robotic silver bodysuit, decked out with a metal neckpiece, chest plate and arm pieces. She finished the look off with a pair of futuristic cyclops glasses. Later in the performance, she removed the metal body armor and glasses to reveal a strappy silver bodysuit, custom-made by Dolce & Gabbana.
Doja Cat was another Coachella performer who has been making headlines in the last two weeks. When Ye dropped out of his headlining spot two weeks before the start of the festival, many fans were hoping the festival organizers would make Doja a headliner, as well.
While she was not moved up to headline the show, she delivered a showstopping performance regardless, as she always does. Doja performed her hits and other deep cuts from her 2021 album “Planet Her” and her 2019 album “Hot Pink.”
She performed hits like “Say So,” “Kiss Me More,” “Juicy” and “Get Into It (Yuh)” as well as other songs from her two most recent projects like “You Right,” “Tia Tamera,” “Streets,” “Up And Down” and “Woman.”
Between the iconic fashion moments, more-than-memorable performances and star-studded guest list, Coachella 2022 was an absolute hit. It’s now time to begin the countdown to see what the Coachella festival organizers have in store for us for 2023.
