WHERE DO I START?

There are a variety of ways for interested students to get involved at the Targum. We offer a variety of opportunities with a wide range of commitment levels. The Targum has great opportunities for growth, building your portfolio, traveling and make great friends.

FREELANCE POSITIONS

Want to get involved but don’t want to commit just yet?

  • Contributing Writer (News, Sports and Inside Beat)

Write a few articles to see if The Daily Targum is a good fit for you.

  • Contributing Photographer (Photo)

Attend a photo meeting and shoot a few assignments to see if The Daily Targum is a good fit for you.

PAID POSITIONS

Want to get paid and gain more experience at The Daily Targum? Apply for one of our paid positions! 

  • Correspondents (News, Sports and Inside Beat)

 Required to write at least 2 stories per week.

  • Staff Photographers / Videographers (Photo / Video)

Required to shoot a minimum of 3 assignments per week.

OPINIONS

All submissions should be sent to our opinions editor, Sara Eschleman, at oped@dailytargum.com

  • Columnist - Do you have strong opinions and want to voice your ideas to the community on a regular basis? Apply for a columnist position for the chance to have your writing published bi-weekly or monthly in the Targum's opinions section.

  • Commentary - Can’t commit to being a regular columnist, but still want to have your voice heard? Write a guest commentary, 800 words or less, to potentially be published in the Targum's opinions section.

  • Letters to the Editor - Is there something you read in the Targum that really grinds your gears? Maybe something you liked?  Submit a letter to the editor — just keep it under 400 words.

The following editor positions are a paid full-time commitment. We hire new editors every year and fill open positions throughout the year. DESKS AT THE DAILY TARGUM

NEWS: The news desk covers news from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, Highland Park, Piscataway and other local communities. Contact the news editors, Brian Delk, Uriel Isaacs or Arishita Gupta at news@dailytargum.com or university@dailytargum.com for more information.

OPINIONS: The opinions editor writes the daily editorials, which reflect the opinion of the majority of the current editorial board. Chosen columnists are responsible for writing a column to appear in the opinions section once every two weeks. Political cartoonists can submit a cartoon once per week. SPORTS: The sports desk covers Rutgers University sports. For more information, contact the sports editors, Ellis Gordon or Josh Meyers, at sports@dailytargum.com.

COPY: Copy editors edit and check all Targum content for facts and style. For more information, contact the copy editors, Amanda Clark or Caroline Serpico, at copy@dailytargum.com

PHOTO: Staff photographers cover University news, metro news and sports events. Photo editors prepare online galleries, choose and edit photos for print. For more information, contact the photo editor, Hamza Azeem, at photo@dailytargum.com.

VIDEO: Video editors and staff videographers shoot and edit video, conduct on-camera interviews and prepare additional multimedia packages like audio podcasts. For more information, contact the video editors, Benjamin Horner or Ragini Subramanian, at video@dailytargum.com.
