Snoop Dogg's legendary performance at SHI stadium rocked Rutgers

In honor of the pandemic graduates of the Classes of 2020 and 2021, Rutgers set out to throw the party of a lifetime: On Oct. 23, Snoop Dogg came out to help the grads celebrate in style, and it was truly a night to remember.

The concert was held at SHI stadium on Busch campus this past Saturday night and while his performance was only 40 minutes long, it was incredible to witness.

Students were able to bus over to the stadium and take their seats to watch Snoop Dogg's legendary performance. While students and alumni filed in, Snoop's DJ kept the audience hyped with an awesome setlist that got the crowd singing and dancing.

After the more than hour-long wait, Snoop Dogg made his way to the stage dripping in Rutgers merch including a Rutgers hoodie and beanie. The rapper then opened up his performance by congratulating the graduates and exclaiming “Who’s smoking tonight?” as he lit up a blunt.

With help from accompanying act rapper Warren G, Snoop Dogg brought a ton of energy to the stage and even our own Rutgers mascot joined the party, running up and down the aisles dancing, throwing money with Snoop Dogg's face printed on it and getting up on stage with the legend himself.

His performance featured his classic throwback hits such as "Young, Wild & Free," "Say It Witcha Booty," his "P.I.M.P." remix with rapper 50 Cent and his banger with Akon "I Wanna F*** You," alongside flashing lights, video visuals and incredible choreography from his very talented pole dancers.

There's absolutely no doubt that Snoop Dogg knows how to party — the energy remained high the whole night as the rapper got the whole audience singing along. At one point he asked all the ladies to join him in singing one of his songs and the whole stadium went wild. His song choices were great for a college crowd and had everyone singing and dancing right along with him.

I do wish I was able to be up close (I sat in the bleachers around the middle of the student section of the stadium) and be a part of the energetic crowd near the stage. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be up close and personal to an icon?

And considering the long wait, I would have wanted Snoop Dogg to perform a bit longer, maybe even just for an hour — my friends and I felt like he could have performed some more of his classics, which would have hyped up the audience even more.

Regardless, the show was a hit and it was truly a privilege to be in the presence of an icon like Snoop Dogg. Rutgers did a great job choosing him to perform, and he did an even better job at making sure the graduates from the Classes of 2020 and 2021 felt celebrated and congratulated. It was one of the best nights this year thus far!
