Rutgers women's soccer to play Michigan on road, looking for 7th straight win
The Rutgers women's soccer team is in top-tier form after defeating Washington 1-0 on Sunday, earning its sixth straight win and shutout. The Scarlet Knights (7-1-1, 3-0) have not conceded a goal in 550 minutes and are 3-0 in conference play for the second time since 2014.
Sunday's matchup against the Huskies (4-3-2, 1-2-0) was much closer than Rutgers' previous matches in its winning streak. The lone goal came from senior forward Riley Tiernan after a ball over the top from senior defender Emily Mason. Mason was named Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
The Knights have scored 13 goals and conceded none in their last six games. The goals have come from multiple players, like freshman midfielder Shaela Bradley, Tiernan and junior forward Allie Post. In her first season on the Banks, Bradley has started every game so far, has scored 2 goals and provided three assists. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after her goal contributions against Washington and Oregon.
Rutgers will now take its talents to Michigan to begin a three-game stretch of away games. The Knights defeated the Wolverines (2-7-1, 1-2-0) 2-0 last season in Piscataway, with Tiernan and senior midfielder Kylie Daigle finding the back of the net.
Michigan started its season on a five-game losing streak but has since picked up two impressive wins. The Wolverines defeated Alabama 1-0, ranked No. 24 at the time, to earn the program's first ranked win since 2023. Michigan's second win this season was a thrilling come-from-behind victory against Nebraska.
Jenna Lang leads the team with 4 goals, scoring half of the Wolverines conference-low 8 goals. As for their defense, they've conceded a conference-high 24 goals.
Michigan has had a tough schedule this season, playing three ranked teams. It'll be looking to start a winning streak at home against an in-form Rutgers side.
The Knights will want to defeat the Wolverines because after that game, they play Michigan State and Penn State, the No. 1 and No. 15 ranked teams in the country, respectively.
Thursday's game against the Wolverines will kick off at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
