There’s no better way to end a day than by curling up with a good book, and 2022 was the perfect year to do that with all of the great releases. A lot of veteran authors released follow-ups to their already popular novels, and some new writers debuted their first books, but they all hit the mark.

One of this year’s best new releases was "Every Summer After," written by Carley Fortune. Though it was Fortune's debut novel, once the book hit the Generation Z staple that is "BookTok," it was in the display windows of bookstores everywhere.

Fortune writes about a whirlwind romance between childhood friends who find themselves falling in love. Persephone Fraser (otherwise known as Percy) learns to deal with a mistake from her past, as it changed everything between her and Sam Florek, the love of her life. The audience gets to see the relationship bloom between her and Sam over the course of six summers and one weekend in the present day.

Once they have a chance to reconnect, Percy finds herself wanting to fix their past and create a future between them. "Every Summer After" was completely deserving of the hype it received and completely surpassed expectations. This book will have you hooked from the first line and will keep you invested until the end.

Another genius 2022 release was Lacie Waldon’s sophomore novel, "From the Jump." This book was nothing other than the perfect with the exciting friends-to-lovers romance — one that's dying to be read. Despite the amazing story this book offered, it definitely did not get the hype it deserved.

Liv Bakersfield, a successful graphic designer, plays by the rules and has no intention of breaking them. That is until she has the opportunity to join her friends on a trip to South Africa. Once she finally steps outside of her comfort zone, Liv realizes that she might be missing out on life. But when everything starts crashing down around her, she ends up right back in the arms of the guy she was trying to avoid: her best friend, Lucas Deiss. Waldon’s novel hit it out of the park, and it deserved a lot more excitement than it got.

If you have TikTok, you have undoubtedly heard of Colleen Hoover. Her books have taken over the "To Be Read" lists of every book-loving TikTok user, and her newest release, "It Starts with Us," is no exception. This new novel serves as the sequel to her award-winning book, "It Ends with Us," picking up right where the story left off.

Lily Bloom is ready to move on with her life after a messy breakup with her ex-husband, Ryle Kincaid, when the love of her life, Atlas Corrigan, makes a return. This new book explores the new relationship between the childhood-friends-to-lovers as well as the unraveling of her old relationship. This long-awaited release was the perfect follow-up to the tearjerker that was the original book.

Ali Hazelwood is another author who took over every BookTok viewer's "For You Page" when her book "The Love Hypothesis" was released. Her 2022 release "Love on the Brain" completely lived up to the hype of her previous novel.

“Love on the Brain” follows neuroscientist Bee Königswasser, who is forced to work on a project with her nemesis, Levi Ward. When she is faced with the possibility of having feelings for her co-worker, Bee finds herself wondering what she should do.

This follow-up novel kept with the theme of the STEM drama and created another exciting story for rom-com lovers, just like Hazelwood's debut.

This was a great year for new releases, and all of these authors excelled with their latest novels. Each one of them was a success and got a lot of hype, but some of them deserved a lot more attention than they got. These new novels were incredibly exciting releases for bookworms everywhere and have made 2022 the perfect year to get invested in BookTok.
