Most students, including myself, need a break from the stress of the endless essays and more than 100 pages of reading due in short periods of time. Easy access to shows on television or on streaming services are beneficial for people who want to take a break from the constant stress of assignments. School can take a huge toll on students so watching shows can be a much-needed outlet.

"The Crown"

"The Crown" is an amazing show on Netflix that centers on the lives of a middle aged Queen Elizabeth II and the people whose lives revolve around her. In my opinion, this show does an amazing job of allowing the viewer to relate to royalty from a point of view they haven’t seen before.

As a student, I think this is nice to see because it is a reminder that even the Queen and her children go through some of the same struggles average people deal with (maybe not the part about trying to decide whether to take the hike to the dining hall or spend money on Uber Eats). Besides that, they do need to deal with family feuds and the unrealistic expectations of one’s parents. It's so easy to get caught up in the drama of it all.

"Game of Thrones"

"Game of Thrones" is the type of show that you can escape into and feel as if you are part of the world. The endless storylines and characters will consistently keep you on the edge of your seat. Also, if you’re into fantasy worlds then this is a show that may interest you. Although this show may be hard to keep up with because there are so many different terms and people, the plot is so unique that it makes it worth it. In addition, the beautiful scenery can help to de-stress and ease up on the eyes.

"The Office"

Who could forget about "The Office." I have met very few people who disliked this show, but as for the people who absolutely adore it and rewatch each season every other month, it is a must watch. This show is probably the best de-stressor for a more universal audience. Even my eighth grade brother watches it to take a break from homework. The comedy and humor is on point and I find myself laughing so hard during every episode. The show takes stereotypically bland office life and makes it fun and interesting, with every day different from the next.

"Rick and Morty"

Cartoons shouldn’t be restricted from this list of de-stressing shows. One show I’d recommend is "Rick and Morty." This show just hits differently. The self-deprecating humor and the varying adventures that they go on makes you want to binge the show. The episodes are less than half an hour, so if you are taking a short break then this show would be perfect for you.

Even though there is a plot to the show sometimes you don’t really need to know what’s going on to watch an episode. Some of the episodes are pretty random and easy to keep up with.

These aren’t the only shows you are limited to when taking a break from homework to de-stress. Anyone can find a show that they like to help them forget about how stressful their day to day lives are. As long as you feel a little bit better by the end of the day, then that should work.

Personally, I find that taking a break from my work can help improve my mental health and keep me motivated enough to continue with my work.
