Seven people were charged in connection to a drug distribution network that linked University students to narcotics sellers, according to a press release published on Thursday.

"Operation RU Pharm," the investigation led by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Task Force along with the Rutgers University Police Department, New Brunswick Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, exposed a private social media network that allowed Rutgers students access to menus of drugs posted by distributors.

The operation, run across several months, resulted in the confiscation of marijuana, cocaine, LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, Xanax, Adderall, money and a firearm.

Four of the seven people arrested are University students or alumni, one of whom is allegedly responsible for the creation of the network. Charges include various degrees of Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Money Laundering and Possession with Intent to Distribute Drug Paraphernalia.

"The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority at Rutgers," said a University spokesperson. "The University is supporting law enforcement in its investigation."
