The Rutgers men's basketball 2025 recruiting class picked up its third player in as many weeks on Friday when three-star Kaden Powers announced his verbal commitment to join the Scarlet Knights.

Powers is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Seattle, Washington, where he attended Rainier Beach High School. He notably held offers from Washington, Utah State and UNLV, among others. Powers narrowed down his decision to Rutgers and the home-team Huskies before ultimately choosing to come across the country to the Banks.

Powers joins a long list of Rainier Beach High School players to go on to play college basketball — the list includes many players who went on to play in the NBA, including current players Dejounte Murray, Kevin Porter Jr. and MarJon Beauchamp, and former players such as Nate Robinson, Doug Christie and Jamal Crawford.

Crawford has been a particularly influential Rainier Beach alum for Powers, as he has aided in Powers' development.

"He's been a really good mentor to me," Powers said. "I work out with him all the time."

After watching Powers' tape, it makes sense that he gets some training from Crawford, as Powers has a smooth, efficient offensive game. To put it simply, Powers knows how to put the ball in the basket. He is a knock-down shooter and can get his shot off from practically anywhere on the floor with his strong pull-up game.

Powers' offensive prowess really started opening some eyes after his performances at Peach Jam this past summer, when he averaged approximately 17 points per game and shot an astounding 47 percent from three-point range.

Powers joins four-star guard Lino Mark and three-star big man Gevonte Ware as the first commits in the Knights' 2025 class. All three were mainly recruited by assistant coach Marlon "Smoke" Williamson, who continues to be a force in drawing talent to the Banks.
