On Wednesday evening, members of the Sigma Chi fraternity reportedly witnessed the aftermath of a break-in and burglary at the fraternity's 40 Hardenberg Street house on the College Avenue campus, a University-wide email read.

The victims, who are affiliated with the University and reside at the house, claimed that two perpetrators left the house upon the residents' return at approximately 7:07 p.m. The perpetrators fled on foot after the fraternity members confronted them.

The perpetrators were able to enter the house using force and stole residents' belongings. Their descriptions are currently limited, according to the email.

The email does not mention whether any other residents were in the house at the time of the burglary. The witnesses were not physically injured.

In the email, the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) instructs University community members to secure building entrances and valuables. Those with knowledge of the situation are asked to come forward to the RUPD's Detective Bureau.

At the time of writing, the Sigma Chi fraternity has not responded to The Daily Targum's request for comment.
