On Friday, the Rutgers—New Brunswick community received an alert from the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) regarding a shooting between Easton Ave and Hamilton Street. Charges and arrests for three men involved in the incident were issued on Saturday and announced Monday morning.
The shooting left two people injured, one of whom was impacted by a stray bullet, as previously reported by The Daily Targum.
All three perpetrators were from nearby towns, including New Brunswick, Plainfield and Hillsborough.
While each of the three was charged with armed riot, Christian Farmer was charged with five additional charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault and two separate counts of attempted murder. Walter Rodriguez-Cardenas received an additional charge of hindering prosecution.
A fourth individual presumed to be involved in the situation has yet to be apprehended, according to an article from My Central Jersey. The existence of another offender involved was not disclosed in RUPD's historic or most recent emails to the University community regarding this incident.
In its most recent communication, RUPD said the department would be increasing its supervision in the area by working with the New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD), which asks individuals to contact the NBPD's Detective Bureau with any information about the event.
