The Rutgers football team made its first big splash in the transfer portal, landing a commitment from senior wide receiver Dymere Miller out of Monmouth University. Miller announced his decision on Sunday after taking an official visit to the program over the weekend.

Miller was one of the top wide receivers available in the transfer portal and will join a wide receiver room in need of more consistent production. The Scarlet Knights (6-6, 3-6) will be without senior wide receivers JaQuae Jackson and Isaiah Washington next year as both players have run out of eligibility. Jackson and Washington accounted for 34 percent of Rutgers’ receptions this year so Miller will have plenty of opportunities to make an impact.

Miller, who hails from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, has a connection with the program, as he played with now-former Knights Aaron Young and Avery Young at Coatesville High School.

Miller joins Rutgers after playing four seasons at the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level with the Hawks (4-7, 3-5). He was a star at Monmouth, tallying 90 receptions for 1,293 yards, along with nine touchdowns this season. Those numbers broke single-season records for the Hawks, and he led all FCS players in receiving yards while finishing tied for ninth in receiving touchdowns and second in receptions per game.

In his senior day matchup against New Hampshire, Miller caught 11 passes for a whopping 333 yards and two touchdowns. It was the most receiving yards in a single game in the FCS all season and was a Monmouth single-game record. It was also the second-most yards in a single game in the history of the Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA).

The six-foot, 180-pound receiver brings game-breaking speed to the Banks, as he was also part of a record-breaking 4x100-meter relay team in high school that finished second in the state of Pennsylvania. His field-stretching presence will be a boon for the Knights, as they will likely look to open up the passing game next season.

Miller also ranked second among all FBS and FCS wide receivers with a 92.3 Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade, behind only first-round NFL Draft prospect Malik Nabers from LSU. Miller was awarded for his breakout senior season with the Hawks, being named to the Associated Press FCS All-America First Team and the PFF 2023 FCS All-America Team. He was even named a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, given to the most prolific offensive player in the FCS.

Rutgers was the first team to off Miller, but he also visited Texas Tech last weekend. Despite this, the Knights beat out the Red Raiders (7-6, 5-4) and several other suitors, and he will not have to travel far up the Garden State Parkway for his final year of college football.

College football’s offseason is just beginning and with National Signing Day drawing near and the transfer portal remaining very active, Schiano and his staff will have their work cut out for them as they try to fill holes in their roster. Miller, though, represents a strong start to the offseason as he will look to lead Rutgers’ wide receiver room during the 2024 season.
