Two new buses added to Rutgers fleet for 1st time in 8 years
On Wednesday, two new buses began operating for the University bus system, which is the first update to the system since 2015, according to a statement from the University to The Daily Targum.
The two new buses are owned and operated by First Transit, the company contracted to operate the Rutgers bus system, and they are made by ElDorado, the same manufacturer as the other buses currently in service.
Each bus in the fleet costs an average of $515,000, with the funding for the bus system coming from the University and student fees, according to the statement.
These two buses are part of 10 new buses Rutgers plans to add to the fleet this year to allow older buses to be retired.
"Several older buses will be retired to maintain the reliability of the fleet. All buses are continually monitored, and changes are made as appropriate," the statement said.
