On Tuesday, a Rutgers bus stopped short after being cut off by an oncoming vehicle, causing a student passenger to fall onto the bus’ front windshield from the inside and shatter it, according to a statement from the University to The Daily Targum.

At the time of the incident, the bus was traveling east on Frelinghuysen Road on Busch campus when the other vehicle attempted to turn left onto the same road. There was no collision between the bus and the moving vehicle.

After the stop, the student passenger departed from the bus and declined medical attention, according to the statement.

The bus’ drive cam, which records the road ahead of the vehicle, was in operation but had slipped off of the windshield, causing it to be pointed in a different direction at the time of the incident. The University does not require that the drive cam be operational on the buses.

The Rutgers University Police Department and First Transit, the private transportation company that provides the buses and hires bus drivers for the University, are both currently investigating the incident, according to the statement.
