The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is looking into the theft of a cell phone, which occurred Wednesday evening near The Yard @ College Avenue, according to a University-wide email alert.

The robbery reportedly occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. in an establishment near the corner of Hamilton Street and College Avenue. A male perpetrator took a cell phone from an individual working at the establishment.

The perpetrator later pushed the victim, unaffiliated with Rutgers, when she tried to take the cell phone back. The former left the scene by entering a black sedan and moving toward Mine Street.

The perpetrator, described as a 5-foot-10 male who was an acquaintance of the victim, was wearing a black jacket and light-colored pants during the incident, according to the email alert.

The RUPD requests that any individuals with information regarding the theft, contact its Detective Bureau at 848-932-8025. Additionally, the RUPD advises the public to report suspicious activity to law enforcement and keep their items secure inside their vehicles.
