The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a motor vehicle burglary that happened early yesterday morning, according to a University-wide email alert.

The break-in occurred at approximately 3:59 a.m. on Guilden Street between Bristol Street and Courtlandt Street. The perpetrator is reported to have removed items from the locked vehicle that were owned by an individual unaffiliated with the University.

The perpetrator, armed with a knife, disposed of the stolen property while being chased by a witness to the crime on Delafield Street. The description of the perpetrator is limited and not shared with the public at this time, according to the email.

The NBPD said anyone with additional information or who may have been nearby during the incident should contact the NBPD's detective bureau.

The Rutgers University Police Department added that any witnesses to a crime should not chase or attempt to apprehend perpetrators but instead contact law enforcement immediately.
