RUPD investigates burglary near Somerset, Hamilton Streets

The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is currently investigating a burglary that occurred on Sunday, according to a University-wide email alert.

The incident took place at approximately 5:52 a.m. at a residence on College Avenue between Somerset Street and Hamilton Street. The perpetrator used force to enter the building and access a private room.

Upon being observed, the perpetrator fled the building. He is described as a Black male in his mid-20s who was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and an orange head covering.

The RUPD said that anyone who has information about this incident should contact the RUPD’s Investigations Unit, according to the email.

In addition, the RUPD said the University community should take reasonable precautions, including leaving exterior doors closed, reporting suspicious activity immediately to the police, securing entry points to buildings and ensuring that valuables are secured at all times.
