The New Brunswick Fire Department will be awarded $50,000 through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs American Rescue Plan Firefighter Grants.

A total of $10 million was granted to 293 New Jersey fire departments to provide firefighters with personal protective equipment, oxygen devices and cleaning supplies, according to a recent press release.

Gov. Phil Murphy (D-N.J.) announced the grant program in May, saying it would assist firefighters in protecting themselves from infections like the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

All local fire departments in the state were eligible to apply for the grant before the application closed on August 13.

"Equipping our firefighters with the proper gear is crucial to allowing them to safely and successfully do their jobs," Murphy said. "I am grateful to DCA for recognizing these departments’ needs and awarding funding to provide this equipment."
