Looking for your new binge? Here's what 'You' should check out next
What’s better than huddling up on the couch after a long day, logging onto your favorite streaming service and binge-watching a new TV show?
I absolutely love watching new shows, especially when there are many seasons that can keep me occupied for a while. When you find a new show that you love, binge-watching it at the end of the night to unwind becomes an activity that you can’t help but look forward to.
Even though there are thousands of shows that have hit the small screen over the years, it can be extremely hard to find a good, binge-worthy show that you wind up loving. We all have different tastes and favorite genres, so it sometimes can be hard to find something that really hooks you in.
Many people may also have a go-to or comfort show that they love to rewatch over and over again, so it can also be hard to break out of that cycle and dedicate your time to a new show.
Let’s break down my top four favorite shows to binge-watch, from older classics to newer picks. The only requirement for this list is that all of the shows must have at least three seasons — because nothing is worse than falling in love with a new show that only has one or two seasons and being left with a cliffhanger at the end.
"Desperate Housewives" (2004-2012)
This show is my newfound favorite. It truly is so funny, witty, heart-wrenching and mysterious. I feel like every time I watch it, I'm stuck on the edge of my seat, with the plot constantly twisting and changing.
"Desperate Housewives" features an amazing cast of Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Marcia Cross as Bree Van de Kamp, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo and Eva Longoria as Gabrielle Solis.
The plot centers around the four housewives’ lives in their perfect, white picket fence suburban neighborhood of Wisteria Lane. After the shocking death of their close friend, tragic and terrifying secrets begin to reveal themselves, showing the true animosities that lie underneath the housewives’ picture-perfect facades.
"Desperate Housewives" is available to stream on Hulu.
"New Girl" (2011-2018)
This show is one of my absolute favorites and a self-proclaimed comfort show. It’s so funny and easy to binge-watch, thanks to the witty storylines, phenomenal acting and the fact that they're barely more than 20 minutes per episode.
"New Girl" features a standout cast, starring Zooey Deschanel as Jessica Day, Jake Johnson as Nick Miller, Max Greenfield as Winston Schmidt, Lamorne Morris as Winston Bishop and Hannah Simone as Cece Parekh.
The show centers around Jess, a young, quirky teacher who breaks up with her long-time boyfriend, and starts searching for a new place to live. She stumbles across a loft apartment online, where she meets her new roommates Nick and Coach (who was eventually replaced with Winston). "New Girl" follows Jess as she navigates her newfound life, challenges and flourishing romances.
"New Girl" is available to stream on Netflix.
"You" (2018-Present)
This show is one that I think about frequently as it's one of the most alluring shows I’ve watched recently. It’s just so enticing to watch due to the constant twists and turns and outstanding acting performances from its out-of-this-world cast. It features Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, Elizabeth Lail as Beck, Victoria Pedretti as Love Quinn, Shay Mitchell as Peach Salinger and Jenna Ortega as Ellie Alves.
The show centers around Joe, a bookstore manager who falls hard for an up-and-coming female author. His crush leads to obsession, bringing him down an endless path of stalking — where absolutely nothing can stand in his way.
"You" is available to stream on Netflix.
"Glee" (2009-2015)
Another one of my favorite comfort shows, "Glee" is truly a timeless and hilariously entertaining show that will be talked about for years to come. It’s perfectly cringey, filled with outstanding musical performances and has an amazing, praise-worthy cast.
"Glee" features Lea Michele as Rachel Berry, Cory Monteith as Finn Hudson, Naya Rivera as Santana Lopez, Amber Riley as Mercedes Jones, Dianna Agron as Quinn Fabray, Heather Morris as Brittany Pierce, Chris Colfer as Kurt Hummel, Darren Criss as Blaine Anderson, Matthew Morrison as Will Schuester and Jane Lynch as Sue Sylvester.
The show centers around the members of McKinley High School’s glee club, run by Schuester. It shows the ups and downs of the traditional high school hierarchy, incorporating musical cover songs throughout every episode, a way to guide the story along. If you’ve never watched it, you’re truly missing out.
"Glee" is available to stream on Hulu.
