On September 27, the internet was shocked by the news of seemingly devoted husband and founding member of The Try Guys Ned Fulmer engaging in a workplace affair with associate producer and one of the Food Babies, Alexandria Herring.

Shortly after the news broke, The Try Guys announced the company would be cutting ties with Fulmer in a statement across its social media platforms. The group expressed that they “did not see a path forward” with Fulmer after they were made aware of the cheating scandal.

Fulmer posted an apology to his social media platforms as well, stating he “lost focus and had a consensual workplace relationship.” Ariel Fulmer, Ned Fulmer's wife, also posted a statement to her social media accounts asking for privacy and time to heal.

Personally, I have been watching The Try Guys since the group's inception on Buzzfeed. I stayed with the channel through its evolution and used Keith Habersberger’s "Eat The Menu" series and the group’s "Without A Recipe" videos for laughs and comfort during quarantine. The dynamics between the guys and their families were genuinely heartwarming, and hearing this news was absolutely devastating.

The Try Guys first rose to fame after being introduced on BuzzFeed and then leaving to form their own channel. They are best known for their activities in which they, well, try new things.

Each Try Guy had their own distinct brand: Eugene Lee Yang was the sassy but caring perfectionist, Zach Kornfeld the eternal sweetheart with a penchant for inevitably messing up any "Without A Recipe" video, Habersberger the token funny guy with a heart of gold, and Fulmer the family man who cultivated his entire online personality around being devoted to his wife.

Fulmer's partnerships all centered around him being the quintessential husband among the more (at least at the beginning of their careers) bachelor-esque humor and lifestyles of the other Try Guys. He baked bread, cared for his family and cracked at least two dad jokes per group video. Reportedly, he and his wife even gave a talk about the ethics of good relationships at Santa Clara University according to students who witnessed the talk.

This dichotomy left many long-time fans, including myself, shocked. This was the man who had built his entire internet persona around being devoted to his wife, and then he had an affair — with one of his associate producers, no less.

On Monday, The Try Guys released a statement detailing how they dealt with the information that Fulmer was having an affair and what the future of the company would look like going forward.

The remaining Try Guys expressed that they were completely blindsided and shocked by the news, as Fulmer was a man they had built the company with and known for eight years. This news began a three-week investigation involving lawyers, human resources and public relations in order to assess the damage done and remove Fulmer from 2nd Try LLC.

This scandal is another reminder that celebrities and influencers are not the people we see on screen. Fulmer was a man who appeared to be so in love with his wife that cheating was not even on the minds of many fans. Nobody knows why he did it, but the damage has been done, and fans will wait to see exactly what happens next.
