As a Rutgers student, game days are a must. The only problem? Deciding what to wear. – Photo by Rutgers Scarlet Knights / Twitter

As Rutgers football season is really kicking into gear, a key element to attending the games is picking out the perfect outfit that is stylish and cute yet practical for game days. It seems like a competition with everyone else to come up with the most unique outfits that scream school spirit.

Although it can be hard to find the right fits, this game day guide will be your holy grail for all tailgates, dages and home games.

Hype and Vice

The California-made brand Hype and Vice is essential for any student wanting to show school spirit. They have hundreds of schools to choose from, but specifically for Rutgers students, the website has a selection of 37 pieces that are unique and display the Rutgers name or logo somewhere on them.

Most pieces offer three color options which are (our school colors) red, white and black. They have everything from cute sweatpants to fashion-forward tops. They stray away from the basic school T-shirts and release up-to-date clothing that anyone would want to wear.

They are most known for their crop tops which would be perfect to wear with basic shorts and jeans. These will elevate your outfit, and you’ll be the chicest person in the crowd.

Jersey girl

Stopping at your local Scarlet Fever and picking up an oversized jersey will look so cute with shorts or a mini skirt. You could also purchase a Rutgers football jersey or go out of your comfort zone and wear a hockey, basketball or rugby shirt to mix things up.

The oversized look is really in right now, but it can also be practical. In the colder months, when autumn is beginning to look like winter, oversized shirts with long sleeves will be a lifesaver when you just want to enjoy the game or party without freezing.

RU makeup

Another way to elevate your look on a game day is by putting Rutgers-themed face accessories or makeup into your regular routine. Some options that’ll look good are red and clear face diamonds around the eyes, an “R” face sticker that can be purchased at Scarlet Fever or just simple eyeshadow that coordinates with Rutgers colors.

Tennis shoes

On a more practical note, tennis shoes, whether at the game, tailgate or dage, are essential for a hassle-free day. Most likely, you will be out and about without any time to travel back to your dorm to change into more comfortable footwear.

Wearing Nike Air Forces, Converses or some other neutral shoe will keep you comfortable throughout the day but will also get you around if you are jumping from place without being uncomfortable.

Bags

If you are attending the football game at SHI Stadium on Busch campus, they have certain restrictions on bringing bags into the stadium. Only clear bags and small clutches are allowed in the stadium, so if you are planning on bringing a lot of items into the game, it would be recommended to bring a clear tote bag. With that, you can bring as much as you want without having to walk all the way back to your car to go put it all back.

Accessories

During game day, you can never have too many accessories. This is the day for you to go all out and whip out those glasses you wore on Halloween five years ago. Some ideas to bring to the next football game would include red sunglasses, cowboy hats, tutus, Rutgers earrings or, if you're wild enough, you could wear colorful wigs with all your friends.

Whatever you wear on game days, just make sure to have a great time and show school spirit wherever you can!
