It's mid-October, and spooky season is finally upon us.

Who doesn’t love Halloween time? It’s a time filled with fall leaves, pumpkin and apple-themed drinks, comfy clothes, candy and horror movies — what’s not to love?

One of the best parts of October is cozying up at night with friends or family to watch a scary movie. While horror movies are amazing year-round, there’s something so comforting about sitting on the couch with a blanket and warm apple cider and watching a thrilling movie with the people you love.

Horror, but more specifically thriller movies, are some of my favorite movies, ranging from stories about possession and the supernatural to more real-life scenarios about missing people.

Here’s a list of some of my all-time favorite scary movies to binge this spooky season.

"Midsommar" (2019)

“Midsommar” is truly a cult classic. Starring the likes of Florence Pugh, Will Poulter and Jack Reynor, the film centers around a couple and their friends who head to Sweden for a rural community's Midsommar festival. While everything begins perfectly, sinister secrets start to reveal themselves, creating immense trouble for the American travelers.

Pugh is absolutely phenomenal in this movie and truly steals the show, but the all-star cast helps develop the story and makes the whole experience feel extremely personal. This movie has some gory and intense scenes and truly messes with your head, twisting your perception minute after minute.

If you’ve never seen this film, I highly recommend it to any psychological thriller fans. “Midsommar” is available to stream on Paramount+.

 "Carrie" (2013)

“Carrie” has always been one of my favorite horror movies and still remains in my top five to this day. The film stars Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore as the iconic Carrie and Margaret White, respectively.

The story revolves around Carrie, a troubled girl who was raised by her uber-religious mother that controls her every move. She feels like an outsider at her high school and has no friends. Life seems to be turning around when the most popular boy at school asks her to prom, but little does she know, sinister secrets living underneath the surface slowly begin to reveal themselves.

This movie contains a phenomenal storyline, blood and gore, and a truly lovable yet complex main character who you can’t help but empathize with. “Carrie” is available to stream on Paramount+.

"1BR" (2019)

“1BR” is a hidden gem on Netflix, but it’s truly worth watching. The film stars Nicole Brydon Bloom as Sarah, a newbie to Los Angeles who doesn’t know anyone. She moves into an apartment complex that seems like an absolute dream and is filled with friendly neighbors, but she soon realizes that her new life may not be as picture-perfect as it seems on the surface.

This movie is an absolute must-watch if you love thrillers and a little bit of gore. The cast is phenomenal and truly keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. “1BR” is available to stream on Netflix.

"Us" (2019)

My absolute favorite Jordan Peele flick, “Us” has become a classic in my personal rotation that continues to hit time and time again.

The film stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke as Adelaide and Gabe Wilson, a couple who returns with their children to the home Adelaide grew up in. Their serene getaway quickly turns sour as four masked perpetrators terrorize their home and family, but when the masks are lifted, they’re horrified to realize that they’re dealing with their own doppelgängers.

If you’ve never seen this movie, you’re truly missing out. “Us” is available to rent on Amazon Prime.
