The Rutgers women’s lacrosse team defeated Army 16-9 this evening in its first home game of the season and the first meeting between the two teams.

The No. 17 Scarlet Knights (2-0, 0-0) are undefeated after two games, with five different players contributing to scoring this game.

Senior attacker Marin Hartshorn registered her 100th career point after scoring the match's final goal. Junior defender Meghan Ball also hit a milestone, posting the 100th draw control in just 5 minutes into the game, joining Hartshorn and junior midfielder Cassidy Spilis.

The Black Knights (0-2, 0-0) opened the scoring with a goal from Carleigh Armstrong and an assist from Caroline Raymond, Army’s highest scorer from its last match against Temple.

The first period saw a stalemate before Rutgers emerged to the lead at the end of the period with a score of 4-2.

The Knights went on a 3-0 scoring run in the second period but were answered on each goal, keeping their lead at two at the end of the first half.

Rutgers maintained a comfortable lead after the half going on yet another uncontested scoring run to make the game 9-5. The third period saw its highest shot and shots on goal totals. The Knights posted five goals in the third period alone.

After a couple of goals from the Black Knights, Rutgers still had a tight grip on the lead going into the fourth period. With a 3-goal lead and strong momentum from the third period, the Knights never let go of the lead for the final period.

Netting 4 more goals and continuing a scoring run, they posted all their goals uncontested in the final period to end the game.

Graduate student attacker Taralyn Naslonski bagged the most goals this game with a new season-high of 5. She also posted 12 shots this game, which is one more than Army’s shot total as a team in the entire second half.
