The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is investigating an aggravated assault that occurred near 113 College Ave. yesterday, according to a University-wide email alert.
The alert comes a few days after officials notified students that the New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a home invasion that occurred Friday night on Hartwell Street.
In the aggravated assault, four people reportedly came out of a silver sedan at approximately 3:18 a.m. yesterday and attacked two people affiliated with the University after a verbal argument with them, according to the email. The perpetrators then drove away toward Hamilton Street.
One of the victims went to the hospital for injuries consistent with those of a sharp weapon, according to the email. The other was not injured.
The description of the perpetrators is currently limited.
In the home invasion, five people reportedly invaded the residence of four 20-year-old males at approximately 11:40 p.m. through an unsecured door, according to a separate email sent Saturday and a press release. The perpetrators pulled out two firearms and took several items of value from the victims, who are affiliated with the University.
The victims received no physical injuries, and the perpetrators fled the scene on foot, according to the email.
While the description of the perpetrators is limited, a preliminary investigation indicates that at least one victim and suspect knew each other and that the residence was targeted as a result, according to the release.
Anyone with information concerning these incidents or who was in the areas at the time should contact the RUPD regarding the aggravated assault and the NBPD's Detective Bureau for the home invasion.
The RUPD told students to stay alert to their surroundings, avoid dark or isolated areas and report suspicious activity to the police. Escorts are also provided to members of the Rutgers community upon request.
