The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) sent an emergency notification via text message yesterday at approximately 9:55 p.m. regarding the report of an emergency on Livingston campus.

RUPD Chief of Police Kenneth Cop said officers responded to the area of Livingston Housing Apartment B at 105 Joyce Kilmer Ave. in Piscataway, according to the email.

Upon arrival, RUPD determined a false claim among the residents suggested that the activation of an earlier fire alarm in the building was in response to an active shooter, according to the email.

At approximately 10:06 p.m., the Rutgers—New Brunswick community received another notification alerting them that they could proceed with normal operations. Cop said that after searching the building and investigating the situation, RUPD determined that these claims were false and deemed the area to be safe, according to the email.
