NBPD investigates armed robbery near College Avenue

The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is currently investigating an armed robbery that took place at approximately 1:20 am yesterday near the intersection of Richardson Street and Wyckoff Street in New Brunswick, according to a University-wide email alert.

The victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers, reported that three male perpetrators approached him with a single handgun and forcibly took several items of value, according to the alert. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries and the perpetrators retreated on foot toward the College Avenue campus.

The description of the perpetrators is currently limited, but the NBPD asks anyone with information or who may have been in the area at the time of the incident to contact the NBPD Detective Bureau, according to the alert.

The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) reminds members of the University community to take various safety precautions, including staying aware of your surroundings, immediately reporting suspicious activity and walking in groups when traveling during late night hours, according to the alert. 

RUPD also provides escorts for students, faculty and staff upon request, according to the alert. These escorts include personalized service to vehicles, campus residences or the University’s bus system.
