Rutgers students can now save $5 off their Lyft rides during the fall season.

The latest on the list of available student discounts, Lyft rides have become a primary method of transportation for students on campus who do not own a vehicle or would rather ride-share than wait for a University bus.

“Students are using services like Lyft and Uber more than ever. At top universities in large cities, less than 7 percent of students had vehicles on-campus, with select schools reporting 0 percent in the 2016-2017 academic year,” according to a New Brunswick Patch article.

This discount follows the increased fare rates for New Jersey riders Lyft implemented earlier this year.

The company increased its service fee to $2.35 from $2.05, its per minute rate by $0.02, per mile by $0.09 and upped ride cost fees an additional $0.11, according to estimate fares website.

Lyft data estimates the five most popular drop-off locations, on and off campus, are the New Brunswick Amtrak, Livingston Student Center, Walmart, HighPoint.com Stadium and Busch Campus Center, according to the article.

In 2017, Rutgers was the college with the most Lyft drop-offs that year despite having both bus and train services on campus, according to NJ Advance Media

Rutgers students can use the code BACK2SCHOOL18 and earn $5 off per ride for five rides.
