Rutgers police report aggravated assault, attempted sexual assault near Hickman Hall

On Wednesday, the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) reported an aggravated assault and attempted sexual assault that occurred near Hickman Hall on Douglass campus.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:55 a.m. in front of 89 George St. in New Brunswick, according to an email crime alert. 

The victim, who is not affiliated with the University, reported that she was walking with a male whom she did not know around the area of Commercial Avenue and George Street. 

The victim said she was not familiar with the area as the two neared 89 George St. The perpetrator then knocked the victim to the ground and struck her several times in the face. The perpetrator then touched the victim underneath her clothes while attempting to sexually assault her, according to the alert. 

The victim was able to defend herself and the perpetrator ran from the scene. The victim refused medical attention. 

The perpetrator is described as a white male, approximately 20 years old, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
