After falling to Indiana this past Sunday, the Rutgers women’s basketball team is eyeing a win against Wisconsin. The Scarlet Knights (9-14, 3-8) will look to take advantage of a weaker Badgers (7-15, 2-8) squad compared to their previous matchup with the then-No. 6 Hoosiers (20-1, 10-1).

After taking a 22-17 lead in the first quarter against Indiana on the road last weekend, Rutgers ended up falling to the Hoosiers 91-68. The Knights will now face a Wisconsin team that is not close to gaining national attention in the weekly AP Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll.

The Badgers are scoring 68.3 points per game (PPG), which is greater than the 64.7 PPG that Rutgers is currently scoring. Wisconsin allows an average of 73.2 PPG to its opponents which ranks them at 13th out of the 14 Big Ten teams in that category. Coming in at last are the Knights, who allow 73.5 PPG to their opponents.

Meanwhile, the Badgers only hit 42.9 percent of their field goals while hitting 32.3 percent of their shots from beyond the arc and 74.9 percent of their shots from the free throw line.

While the Wisconsin offense has struggled, the program still has five shooters averaging at least 11 PPG. Leading the pack is forward Serah Williams who averages 13.3 PPG. Coming behind her in that category is guard Julie Pospisilova with an average of 12.3 PPG.

Williams is more dangerous within the arc as she has hit 55.3 percent of her shots from the field despite missing all three of her three-point attempts this season. Williams is a defensive threat as she leads the team with a total of 37 blocks, which ranks her at third in the Big Ten in total swats. Pospisilova, on the other hand, leads the team in total assists with 97.

The Badgers have lost 5 of their last 6 games, and it won’t get any easier for them. Rutgers has been enjoying a week of rest after the team's loss to Indiana, and the Knights will be hungry for their fourth conference victory. This Sunday is supposed to be a special day as the team will be hosting its annual Play4Kay Game at Jersey Mike’s Arena on Livingston campus. Play4Kay is an organization that honors cancer survivors and all women currently fighting against cancer.

Rutgers Athletics released a statement acknowledging the Play4Kay Game and its significance.

“As one woman is diagnosed with cancer every minute, Rutgers and head coach Coquese Washington are united in the fight against all cancers affecting women,” the statement read.

When Rutgers hits the court, the Knights will be wearing pink on their jerseys as well as donning all-pink shoes to commemorate the special day. Rutgers and Wisconsin will tip off in Piscataway at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on Big Ten Network+ as well as 88.7 WRSU-FM.
