EDITORIAL: Targum editors share what they are excited about this semester
As we return to campus, The Daily Targum's editorial board reflects on what they are most looking forward to
With the new school year, The Daily Targum's editorial board discusses why they are enthusiastic about the year.
Isabella Tyszka, editor-in-chief: "A new semester means a fresh start. As a senior this fall, I'm at the point of romanticizing every part of this school year — even packed LX buses and falling over upon getting on one. So, really, I'm looking forward to experiencing Rutgers for one more year: the good, the bad and the annoying."
Victoria Yeasky, managing editor: "Going into my last year at Rutgers, I'm most excited to just have fun and live my life to the fullest. My college experience is something I hold really close to my heart, so I just want to soak it up the best that I can. We have our whole lives ahead of us to stress and work, but right now I just want to make things count."
Astha Lakhankar, head news editor: "This year, I’m looking forward to being a resident assistant for the Newell Apartments on Cook campus. I’m excited to meet residents, work with my fellow RAs and be within walking distance from Harvest!"
Kithmy Wickramasinghe, associate news editor: "This semester, I'm looking forward to completing my minor in cognitive science and taking interesting science classes. I'm also excited to meet up with friends on campus who I haven't seen in a while and try out more epic food places in New Brunswick."
Claire Bruno, associate news editor: "This semester, I am most excited to spend time with my friends and appreciate all of my favorite places on campus since it is my final year at Rutgers. I am also looking forward to continuing my role with the Targum and starting an internship I have coming up."
Ricky Suta, opinions editor: "I am really looking forward to beginning my second-to-last semester at Rutgers. On the academic side, I’m excited to work on my thesis in English, and I am cautiously optimistic about the English graduate seminar that I am in.
"It’ll be some heavy lifting, but I am excited to see my intellectual growth over these next few months. I’m also romanticizing everything about Rutgers: late nights that turn into early mornings with friends, the New Brunswick music scene and certainly all of the coffee shops.
"Shockingly, I am even looking forward to the crowded buses, the dining halls and even some final RU screws. It goes without saying, of course, but I am also happy to continue and conclude my time at the Targum — I’m excited to see what we accomplish this year and what our impact on Rutgers will be!"
Dylan McCoy, head sports editor: "The thing that I am most excited about this semester is finishing up my college career and finding new opportunities for myself. I'm excited for one last football season and one last experience living in New Brunswick."
Jack Bisaha, associate sports editor: "I am most excited for the new experiences that I am anticipating that I will have this semester. In addition to my Targum duties, I am interning with Rutgers Athletics this fall, so it will be really cool to see Rutgers sports from a different lens. It will also be fun to continue to soak in the college experience as best as I can."
Vy Nguyen, head copy editor: "Entering my second-to-last semester, I’m excited to make the most of my time. I’m taking exciting classes, working with some really cool people at the Targum and finally turning 21, so while this will likely be my busiest semester yet, I also suspect it'll be my favorite!"
Henry Wang, photography editor: "This year I'm excited to take up more leadership positions and continue building design experience outside of school. I'll probably suffer, but it will be worth it!"
Chris Kim, head video editor: "I am most excited to make up for lost time. The pandemic trapped me at home for longer than I would have liked. So for my final year here at Rutgers, I can't wait to make some new videos and memories."
Jonny Berkowitz, associate video editor: "This year I cannot wait to work on my senior thesis film. I have been working on the script this summer, and I am very excited to start the production process soon."
Meredith MacLean, inside beat editor: "I'm definitely excited to dive further into my creative writing minor this semester, especially involving literature. I've taken plenty of writing classes, whether they're journalism or creative, but being able to read literature and analyze it is something I've always loved doing, so it's fun to get to do it for class! I also want to go out a bunch more, see plenty of movies at Rutgers Cinema now that I'm living on the Livingston campus and, of course, continue editing for the Targum."
Rachel Chang, social media editor: "This semester I am most excited to get into a more structured routine. I also missed getting matcha every week to sip on while I study. More importantly, I’m excited to make the most of my senior year with friends."
