Ohio State defeats Rutgers wrestling 19-14

The Rutgers wrestling team faced Ohio State on Sunday. The No. 17 Scarlet Knights (0-2, 0-2) lost to the No. 11 Buckeyes (2-1, 2-1) 19-14.

Sophomore 125-pounder Nicolas Aguilar and Malik Heinselman started off the duel. Heinselman won 10-4, putting Ohio State up early 3-0 to start the afternoon.

No. 6 sophomore 133-pounder Sammy Alvarez defeated Jordan Decatur 14-3. Then, No. 1 graduate student 141-pounder Sebastian Rivera defeated Dylan D’Emilio 11-2, which gave Rutgers an 8-3 lead.

Sammy Sasso then came out victorious over redshirt senior 157-pounder Michael VanBrill. Next, redshirt freshman 157-pounder Robert Kanniard defeated Elijah Cleary 7-5, putting the Knights up 11-6.

Fifth-year senior 165-pounder Brett Donner then lost to Ethan Smith 10-3. Next up, Kaleb Romero defeated graduate student 174-pounder Joseph Grello 15-5, which gave the Buckeyes a 13-11 lead.

In the following bout, freshman 184-pounder John Poznanski defeated Rocky Jordan 9-6.

Gavin Hoffman then came out victorious over No. 14 redshirt sophomore 197-pounder Billy Janzer.

Tate Orndorff defeated graduate student heavyweight Christian Colucci, securing a 19-14 victory for Ohio State.

Rutgers will host No. 15 Minnesota and No. 16 Purdue on Sunday at home at 10 a.m.
